Processing & Services

Every order is processed in-house to your dimensions — from slitting and shearing to edge conditioning, winding and packaging.

Precision Slitting

Our slitting lines cut wide master coils into narrow strip to your exact width, from .020″ up to 36″. Experienced operators and specially engineered equipment hold tight width tolerances on thin-gauge material.

Thickness
.0005″ – .040″
Width
.020″ – 36″
Width tolerance
As tight as ±.001″*
I.D. / O.D.
3–20″ I.D. / 36″ max O.D.

*Slit tolerance of ±.001″ may not be possible on all alloy / temper / thickness / width combinations — subject to review.

Shearing & Cut-to-Length

When coil won’t do, we cut sheets to the width and length you specify — no need to settle for standard sheet sizes.

Thickness
.002″ – .040″
Width
1″ – 37″
Length
Up to 240″

Edge Conditioning

Strip can be supplied with the standard as-slit edge or with a conditioned edge for safer handling and cleaner downstream processing.

T
No. 1 EdgeRound EdgeA round or square edge, as specified, produced by machining or rolling. We offer the round edge only.Widths up to 1.500″ (38.1 mm)
TBurr
No. 3 EdgeSlit EdgeAn edge produced by slitting. It is our most common edge and has only a minimal slit burr, which can be removed with a No. 5 edge.
T
No. 5 EdgeDeburred / Safety EdgeAn approximately square edge produced by rolling or filing after slitting. This process removes the slitting burr.

Oscillate (Traverse) Winding

Narrow strip can be oscillate wound onto spools, putting far more footage on each package than a pancake coil for longer, uninterrupted production runs. Strip lengths are joined with laser welds.

Thickness
.002″ – .020″
Width
.125″ – .785″
Small spool
1.5″ I.D. / 11.75″ O.D. (7″ traverse)
Large spool
5″ I.D. / 22″ O.D. (11″ traverse)

Custom Packaging

Coils are wound on cardboard cores in the coil sizes you specify. Cut sheets ship in custom boxes or on skids, packaged to protect material in transit — at no extra charge.

Four examples of Brown Metals Company packaging: a strapped carton, three coils in a cradle on a skid, a stack of slit coils with separators, and a strapped wooden crate on a skid.

Toll Processing & Warehousing

Send us your own material and we will slit or shear it to your requirements — up to .040″ thick and as narrow as .020″ wide. Warehouse storage is also available.
